Wolves once roamed our hills and forests here in Scotland, and it's uncertain when the last one died or was sadly killed.

One story is that that the last wolf was killed by a renowned hunter near Darnaway, called MacQueen in 1743. Two young children were said to have been killed by a wolf whilst crossing the hills near Cawdor, and a gathering of hunters was organised by the Laird of Clan Mackintosh. The renowned hunter MacQueen was late to the gathering, and was scolded when he arrived after some time. He replied, 'Ciod e a' chabhag? (what was the hurry?), and proceeded to lift his plaid to reveal the severed head of the wolf, throwing it into the surprised gathering.
